House 5 is the self that radiates: personal creativity, pleasure, children, love affairs, play. It is the immediate present, self-expression at its most singular. House 11 is the collective "we" and the future: what you build together, what you hope to see come about.
The two poles complement each other. A strong house 5 without house 11 can produce brilliant creativity that is hard to pass on or to anchor in a collective that would give it resonance. The reverse, an overloaded house 11 without house 5, can lead you to dilute yourself in the group to the point of losing the thread of your own expression.
The productive tension between the two: "what do I create for myself" (5) and "what do I contribute to what runs beyond me" (11). House 11 and friends: does it say how many you will have?
No. House 11 says how you live friendships, not in what number. Saturn in house 11 is no sentence to solitude: it often points to a small but solid circle, friends chosen with high standards, ties that last. An "empty" house 11 (no planet) does not mean a life without friends either: the sign on the cusp and its planetary ruler tell you how this area works, even with no planet lodged directly there. Yes, insofar as a professional network is also a chosen collective. The border with house 10 (career, standing) is sometimes porous: house 10 describes the summit of what you build professionally, house 11 the allies and communities orbiting that work, and the resources (the fruits of the labor, per tradition) that flow from it. A Mercury or a Jupiter in house 11 can mean a good part of professional development runs through the network and through introductions.
What is the difference between house 11 (friendship) and house 7 (couples and partnerships)?
House 7 covers contractual or intimate relationships: the couple, the business partner, the declared opponent. The tie is two-way, often formal or at least singular. House 11 covers plural and non-exclusive ties: the friend, the group, the network. You can have a difficult house 7 (conflictual partnerships) and an active house 11 (a rich network of friends) with no contradiction.
